The Biochemistry of Fashion

What is it that makes a look your own? Sure, its the accessories we wear, the way we pair our clothing, and even just what we choose to add to our wardrobe, but its more than that. Fashion is individualized art; a personal manifestation of how we picture ouselves on the inside- on the outside of our bodies for all to see.
Its a phenomenon I like to correlate with the effect our body's natural pheromones have on the perfumes/colognes we wear. Have you ever noticed that a scent can smell especially good on someone you're in love with and smell completely diferent on someone else? Of course there's a lot more working in that scenario than just body chemistry, but something similar happens in terms of our personal style. Our body shape, our personality, and our psyche has a serious involvement in making something look so right or even so wrong.
So what, right? What's the point? There's a major point- this means that in a world of mass produced fashion where everything feels cloned and one-size-fits-all (or no one) there's still hope for individuality without being over the top attention-seeking sporadic. There's a little something, a spark, a curve, just something that makes it perfectly absoloutly- you.

  1. I love this post. I have been thinking a lot about this the past several months. I'm drawn to many trends like a little racoon..."Oooohh, Shiny...", but I try to practice the subtle art of staying clear of trends that don't add to the impact of my personal style. I'm not a purist, and I'm by no means an expert but I think that neglecting this effort can lead to a watered down look and a hectic closet. Lovingly curating your wardrobe over time is very personal and well worth the effort. Thanks Katie!
